IF ALL THE HOOPERS AROUND THE WORLD STOPPED HOOPING – THE WORLD WOULD STOP SPINNING. World Hoop Day 12-12-12.

Believe.  Commit.  Achieve
.
12/12/12 is coming soon.  With over 6 billion people on the planet and being in the Information Age anything is possible.  World Peace is possible.  Do your part now.

Believe it’s possible.  Commit to telling 5 people a day about World Hoop Day and introducing hoops to new people.  Achieve the dream we all desire.

In 2012, Erica Keller of Hoop Connections was named as a World Hoop Day ambassador for her contribution of hoops to organizations such as The Peace Corner in Chicago, IL and Casa Hogar Triskar in Boquete Panama. The hoop love will continue in November with a hoop donation to a local Miami, FL organization.

Hoop Connections wants to encourage local hoopers to become involved and participate in World Hoop Day, not only to celebrate your own life as a hooper but to celebrate the joy of sharing it with other around the world.

Although this year, Erica Keller will be out of town celebrating her own acheivment at her college graduation, we will celebrate WHD  in our own way.

Join us for a spin jam, hoop building and WHD choreography session on December 9th from 6-9pm at iStudio 83 Jason Court, St. Charles, MO!!! SEE YOU THERE!

The WHD Mission:
The mission of World Hoop Day is to bring joy through the importance of play to children around the world.  The benefits of playing with a hoop include having a fit, leaner body with a stronger core and leaner muscles.  Hooping improves self-confidence, inner peace, contentment and relieves depression.

The importance of play is undervalued in this technological age of information.  World Hoop Day brings cost-effective toys that double as a portable gym to remote areas of the world where resources are limited.  Additionally, we donate hoops to individuals and local and global organizations that have a direct impact on communities.  Examples include the Peace Corps and Girl Scouts of America, orphanages, rehabilitation centers and senior homes.

The founders actively recruit and accept proposals from organizations and charities for hoop destinations.  Individual hoopers, teachers and students contribute to the grass roots effort in the movement to end childhood obesity.  Our efforts require a large amount of volunteers who believe in utilizing a single item to change the world.

Every year on an international, easy-to-remember date World Hoop Day volunteers invite their communities to share in the vision of creating a more peaceful world through play and giving back.  Goals of World Hoop Day’s annual event are to recruit new hoopers through teaching lessons of hoop making and dance, sharing of music, food, games and laughter, and raising funds to distribute hoops to as many individuals in the world as possible.

We took a prime opportunity for a sweet shot, although security wasn’t a huge fan of our goofy tourist photo op, we were more than pleased with the giggles and lifetime memory we gained from the experience!

Practice Makes Perfect!

Below: Carolyn Mabry aka. Caroleeena

It is common to find yourself progressing through tricks and moves at a rate that leaves you wondering…..now what? We encourage your to visit your tricks and movements for a little learning reunion and polish them up or learn it in your other current or other side.

Is your vortex wonky? Is your knee hooping fumbly?

This video of the Carolyn Mabry aka. Caroleeena is the prime example of elegant power and finesse. Her smooth moves have inspired me (Keller) to start working again on my chest rolls and shoulder rolls. These were some of the first tricks I learned, yet I never perfected them. They could really use some attention. So let the challenge begin!

A Ninja-riffic weekend!

This weekend Hoop Connections brought to St. Louis the Ninja Hoops team from the San Francisco Bay area.

Two workshops were offered: Saturday – Acro Spinning / Sunday – Ninja Sessions

The class got upside down in their hoops and some even did their first cartwheels ever! This workshop was an experience for those looking for a CHALLENGE and the amazing sense of accomplishment from landing some sweet new tricks!

With a sold out workshop tour so far, Ninja Hoops heads to Kansas City  – hosted by the beautiful and talented Luna Breeze and then onto Boulder, CO. St. Louis was so lucky to have been a stop on along their travels and we will always cherish our ninja-riffic weekend!

We look forward to bumping into them again at Hoop Camp in Santa Cruz, CA this September – until then, we will be working on our ninja skills!

Hoop Connections Celebrates 1 Year of Spinning!

One year ago Erica Burroughs, Erica Keller and Lisa Ogilvy wanted to bring the love of the hoop to their hometown of St. Charles, MO. After weeks of searching for the perfect space and nailing out all the details, Hoop Connections was formed. The very first spin jam was March 13th 2012 and was a HUGE success! Hoopers, poi spinners, flow wands….spinners came out to support and it was an incredible night!

Over the last year, Hoop Connections has grown as a business, as a group and as individuals. With classes, workshops, performances and an international retreat all within the first year of business, year 1 will sure be hard to compete with! This coming year our goals are to focus on more hoop dance education, community involvement and building our youth cirriculums. We want to thank all of the amazing people we have had the pleasure to work with and events we were a part of.
